ALBUM LAUNCH RECORDING

This album emerged out of an intensive healing journey that I have been on over the past four years following a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease in Autumn 2020. The diagnosis precipitated some deep soul-searching about how I had been living my life. Basically I decided to change everything about who and what I thought I was, with the idea that my 'illness' was not just a disaster (though it was that) but also a positive challenge. I realised that if I wanted to 'heal' then I needed to avoid the conventional narratives about PD – that there's no cure and that there is only steady decline with increasing drug dependency. I decided instead to take my own approach to dealing with the condition.
Part of this was to re-engage with art and music, both of which I had abandoned in my early twenties. This was partly prompted by the insight that 'unused creativity is not benign'. This album is one result of this process. It tells the story – though in a non-literal way – of my ongoing cathartic encounter with aspects of myself on the journey towards healing. My wife and musical partner, who also plays on this album, has been my indispensable guide and support in this process and the album would not have happened without her.
Although these songs have come out of a therapeutic process, I hope they are more than just therapy. In other words, I hope they work as songs in their own right over and above whatever value they have had for me personally. But you must be the judge of that. Here is a song from the album:

The album consists of eleven songs. The Invisible Friend are: Fergus Anderson (guitar, voice), Charlotte von Bülow (bass, voice) and Emma Gregory (keyboard). The band is based in Bristol, UK and Copenhagen, Denmark. Temporary Cosmic Gift Vol.1 is their first release. Volume 2 will be available early in 2025.
